作曲家、オルガニスト、オルガン製作者、そして国際的にも名の通った教師として活躍していたスヴェーリンクは、彼が生きていた当時「アムステルダムのオルフェウス」と呼ばれるほどに、声楽分野でも知られた存在でした。当時最もよく歌われていたラテン語聖歌にまったく引けをとらない力強い表現に満ちています。特にマニフィカトは、必聴ものの素晴らしさです。

ハンブルクで、聖ヤコブ教会のオルガニストを務め、さらに音楽団体「コレギウム・ムジクム」を創設するなど、その名を町中にとどろかせる有名な音楽家として活躍したヴェックマンの作品集。劇的な感情の表出を感じさせる書法は、聴く者に雷のような衝撃を与えます。1 曲目に収められている「なにゆえ、独りで座っているのか」はヴェックマンの作品の中でもとりわけ優れたもの。器楽作品のCD の発売はありますが、カントゥス・ケルンのクオリティの高い演奏で聴けるヴェックマンの声楽作品集は、貴重盤の登場といえるでしょう。
